I started blogging when I made my first jump in job & now again I'm back here to share my happiness on getting placed thru campus selection. So as the name of the blog suggests, I feel I was a bit lucky in getting selected -you would know why in the coming lines- but then I realized something more which made me write this.
Lemme describe the events in chronological order. The written test was conducted way back on Nov15th on which the whole process was supposed to be over but due to lack of resources (to take interview), they conducted only the written test on that day & postponed the interview process. Now, we had our sem exams from 20th & so consequently, they conducted interviews after exams (10th Dec). Written test was of CAT format & I knew I would clear it (for that matter, a total of 30 cleared it :)
May be I was one of the toppers or may be they called just randomly for interviews or they might have checked the CVs also before calling, anyway I was THE first to go for interview (in one of the panel which in turn was the first panel to start interviews -other panels started a little late-). I would like to say something about my preparation. I said 'something' because infact I didnt prepare much :) Exams were over on Saturday & we had interview on Monday morning. I was playing badminton till 10pm or so on Sunday after taking rest during daytime :) I planned to read something before sleeping but that didnt happen. Got up just in time to read 3/4 topics & luckily those were the first things asked in the interview (after 'tell me about yourself' - but I need to say that those were among the imp topics :) Some puzzles which I could answer -again I shld say that the interviewer was so friendly and gave me enough time to solve them- for eg he gave me abt 5mins to solve 'use 4 4's to make 722' & then he even helped me with that... I had the feeling that may be he just wants to select me (looking at CV -consistent performance- & relevant work-ex) Anyway one round of interview is done and I came out which seemed to me like 20mins but my frnds waiting outside said 35+ mins. I should confess that for 2/3 Qstns, I gave the reply as 'I dont remember' and for one Qstn even 'I dont know'.... Of course one cannot remember or know everything right :)
There were some 25+ students waiting for their interviews and so I waited for one of my frnd to come out from another panel & we went to Canteen to have tea.. We knew that we MAY have second round but then it may take time with ~25 ppl still waiting for 1st round. Surprise, I was called may be just within 30mins of my first interview. Had to run back literally and my friend adjusted my tie before I entered :)
Again 'tell me about yourself' One simple 'guesstimate'. One numerical puzzle (5 5's to make 37) and a little about my education & work-experience,that's it... Done... I should say that again I couldnt make 37 in the first go & he asked me to leave it 'It's not a test of pass or fail' but I said one min, cant give up just yet & he looked at my sheet & gave a hint with which I could make in few secs :)
Waiting time for result, the longest wait was for me because not even 10ppl had their first round done & my process is over. With ans's like 'dunno','dont remember' & second round lasting for just 10 to 15 mins,
I was not really expecting any good news but then there was a company the next day in which I was more interested (& in which I cant appear if selected in this-as per rules-) & so I can say for sure that I was the least tensed candidate of all.. (You can ask anyone present on that day & they would agree). I could see tensed faced all around me. Some were more tensed & some were less but none relaxed. It's understood after all it was placement season :) Finally, the result has come & unexpectedly, I was among the 11selected and more surprise in store as they took an instantaneous decision of giving laterals taking work-ex into consideration :) So 7 among the 11 had work-ex who were happier than the rest 4 & among the 7 again, me and another friend -who have 4yrs work-ex- have been offered a post above others :) :) :)
Now, that's what I called luck as soon as I got the good news and then I went into details of the process. The ability to solve CAT qstns -especially quants & english- (not D.I & L.R) has been acquired over a quite long period of the academic excellence during the schooling period and preparing for AIEEE& other exams. Then they looked at the marks of 10th,12th, Graduation & P.G -consistency- and then the work-ex in IBM & Accenture. The person in the 2nd interview asked me abt my position in class in 10th,12th,UG & PG. My rating during my work-ex, which was again consistent(above average), though not the best :) Frankly, I wouldn't have been disappointed if not selected but overwhelmed with the result because of the lateral position given & more happy that they took the decision then & there...
Looking forward for a long and successful career with my company (after May) :) :)
